[With another show coming up, Joker has been as busy as he's always been but if you didn't know him you'd hardly be able to tell with how much he's been on the move like sleep is some sort of foreign concept.]
[This morning, he comes trotting up to her with a wide smile on his face.]
Beast! There ya are! [Like it was even remotely hard to find her.]
[Beast, meanwhile, hasn't been sleeping for very different reasons. The uncomfortable, still sort of feeling like perhaps she's gone crazy, or wishing she was crazy if that would make this all make sense sort of way. It's been days and she still hasn't properly confronted the fact that, you know, she has a Pokemon. And other various important things.
But habit drew her to the big top to watch the rehearsals with a stern eye.
When Joker trotted up she turned, trying to smile.]
Lookin' busy as ever.
[If she said things like that it might make her feel something familiar. As ever.]
[He slips into her space, just as carefree about personal bubbles as always. It's always been one of his little failings, but he's always been personable enough for most people not to mind.]
It's a big month, and we're workin' with that fella Jack! It looks like it's gonna be a good month~.
[A slight change. Normally Beast flustered a bit, pretended to be a bit bothered by Joker's freeness with personal space, maybe muttered a complaint-
But her almost confession weighs heavy on her tongue and, she thought, unwanted to his ears. Let alone the events of the aftermath.
She doesn't complain or fluster, only shamefully averts her gaze and crosses her arms beneath her breasts a bit too tight while pretending to observe the ring.]
'aven' run in to 'im yet. What sort a scheme ye got planned then?

....oh yeah I guess this... is your voicemail whups
[It's been long enough that he'd thought she'd have gotten... a bit more relaxed. The first night, it had been understandable, but should she still be like this...? He's not really sure what to say or how to approach it, so he keeps quiet about it for now.]
[A few more days. Let her get used to everything, keep the circus as a circus, and maybe she'd feel better.]
Well, he's busy with his lot- he runs this little business for this time a month. A little place all done up with spooks and scares, things like that- just for fun, mind! Like when yer young and ya jump out at yer mates goin' "boo" and such. I 'ave ta say, he puts a bit more work inta it than that, ha! Still, I hear it does well.
Right on the day ya arrived, I found somethin' perfect for ya! Heh, suited the occasion perfectly, I'd say.
[He's trying to lead her out of the tent proper, and towards some of the back areas where more of the Pokemon tend to relax. They need their own space too, far as Joker was concerned. People and animals alike. Right?]
[But there is a small fenced in area that... seems to be utterly full of small lion cubs.]
[Once they all hear Beast's voice, the small baby lion army starts to paw at the fences, those up front getting on their hind legs in an effort to see over. It doesn't go very well but alas!]
Got a rough estimate. But I had a numbers fella about not too long ago, and he worked out a lotta costs for me for all sortsa things.
I got some businesses that help chip in now and then as well, since the Circus don't move about like it does back home, and I'm tellin' ya there really is a discount folks can get here if they have 'alf a mind for it and don't mind a bit a travelin'.
Right! They're small enough ta be manageable, don't ya think? And they're new ta folks from around here, so the novelty outta keep 'em interested in that!
[Of this, he's fairly confident considering how much value is placed on Pokemon here to begin with. Something new and only seen at the circus should keep visitors steady, at the very least.]
[Oh boy, explaining Pokemon logic- let's not. Or, at least, not quite.]
Yeah, but... Well, they just showed up 'round the same time you did, so no one knows much 'bout 'em yet. It might take 'em a long while ta grow up for us ta worry.
...Or they might grow up real quick, but we can take care a that if it happens.
[Realizing they're being looked at, more than a few of the little cubs come tumbling her way with those up front trying to peer back at her.]
[At the offering of a hand, most of the cubs shove forward. Unfortunately, there's too many of them. Can you say "lion cub pile up"? One adventurous one seems to be doing her best to just climb on top of her siblings in order to get closer.]
[The face of a woman who actually finds something cute but doesn't want to be caught thinking that it was because she'd already made a big deal about not being pleased by something.
That is Beast's face. Right now.
As she tentatively reached out to scratch the adventurous cub's ear.]
[Oh, he recognizes that look, and Joker turns his head away with his hand covering his mouth as he tries not to laugh. Or, at least, he tries not to laugh very loudly.]
[The little cub practically seems to glow as she's scratched behind the ear, a low squeaky sort of purr coming out from her chest. Victory for the lion cub, yessss.]
[Beast made a face at that, mostly because wow Joker no? And partly to stop her expression from softening at the sight of his smile that... Well. Part of her knew he was still hiding things. But. It was a better smile than the last ones she'd seen on him. That night.]
[Maybe he's hiding things, but, well... When isn't he? He'd rather her happy than burdened with some of the things he knows. Besides, ta least he's a little genuine when he laughs.]
Lemme see... There's Rose Red and Snow White, 'course. Rapunzel, too! A lot of 'em I had ta do a hard bit a thinkin', but it's good I know my tall tales, eh?
Is it really 'ard thinkin' if ye just snatch names out a children's stories?
[Anyone listening would probably feel "wow, harsh, Beast, lay off the guy", but beneath the gruff tone was actually... maybe the happiest she'd been since she arrived.]
Which ones are catchin' yer eye then? Or do ya need a bit more time?
[There's a couple of troublemakers in the mix, that much he's noticed, but he's sure any of the faults the little cubs bring along with them is noting Beast can't handle.]
action hi there
[This morning, he comes trotting up to her with a wide smile on his face.]

Oh hi

come here often? 8U

It's a big month, and we're workin' with that fella Jack! It looks like it's gonna be a good month~.
I do actually ;)

Dun dun dunnnn
She focused on the circus instead.]
S'possed to be February last I checked.
[Mumbled but]
Still, partner in' up with somethin' like that isn' bad. I'd 'elp more if I could, but Betty isn't exactly 'ere. Less ye 'ave a tiger about.

[He tries to nudge her along, grinning.]
no subject
But what?
no subject
[He's trying to lead her out of the tent proper, and towards some of the back areas where more of the Pokemon tend to relax. They need their own space too, far as Joker was concerned. People and animals alike. Right?]
[But there is a small fenced in area that... seems to be utterly full of small lion cubs.]
[Unbelievably full. 20 cub full.]
no subject
twenty
lion cubs???]
Joker.
Is that pen there full a baby lions?
no subject
[Joker couldn't look more pleased.]
Yep~!
no subject
[She's dumbfounded. Most circuses had one big cat, maybe a few- Twenty?
There's twenty-
And they look a little off but not so off that it's truly disconcerting but-]
Why?
no subject
[Joker, a few isn't 20]
no subject
A few in't twenty, Joker! 'ow ye goin' t' afford all this?
no subject
no subject
[twenty ???]
An' their only goin' t'eat more when they get older, d'ye know 'ow much meat that'll end up bein' per day?
no subject

[Beast had little head for figures when it really came down to it, so she was prepared to let that go, but-]
'ow the 'ell ye expect me to train this many, hah?
no subject
no subject
[Beast is at least... eying them a bit more reasonably at the idea she only had to actually train one or two.]
no subject
[Of this, he's fairly confident considering how much value is placed on Pokemon here to begin with. Something new and only seen at the circus should keep visitors steady, at the very least.]
no subject
[Beast crouched down, still keeping a bit of a distance but examining the pokemon from each angle.]
no subject
Yeah, but... Well, they just showed up 'round the same time you did, so no one knows much 'bout 'em yet. It might take 'em a long while ta grow up for us ta worry.

[Betty sure hadn't. But at least when they're small there's less a chance of mauling.
Very. Very warily, Beast held her hand out to be inspected, moving cautiously.]
no subject
[At the offering of a hand, most of the cubs shove forward. Unfortunately, there's too many of them. Can you say "lion cub pile up"? One adventurous one seems to be doing her best to just climb on top of her siblings in order to get closer.]

I think that one's Costanza... I think.
no subject
Stop it.
- Except she. Doesn't stop scratching.]
Ye done named 'em all?
no subject
[He leans against the fence as well, wiggling his fingers towards some of the cubs as he grins over at her.]
There's a pair named Ella and Cinder somehow in this mess.
no subject
Thought that was clever, did ye?
no subject
[He'd been missing this.]
Thought it mighta been a lil' clever!
no subject
A little longer wouldn't hurt her. (Maybe.)]
An' 'ow clever 'ave ye been with the rest a them, then?
no subject
Lemme see... There's Rose Red and Snow White, 'course. Rapunzel, too! A lot of 'em I had ta do a hard bit a thinkin', but it's good I know my tall tales, eh?

no subject
no subject
The tiniest mite a credit.
no subject
[He leans down to scratch behind the ear of a cub that hasn't been able to get past the large pile clamoring for Beast's attention.]
Think they're good enough for a bit a play, then?
no subject
[She doesn't relish trying to train more than a pair at a time. Mainly because once they got bigger, well...]
no subject
[There's a couple of troublemakers in the mix, that much he's noticed, but he's sure any of the faults the little cubs bring along with them is noting Beast can't handle.]
no subject
[Wanted them a bit adventurous, energetic... but not as aggressive, or rebellious...]
no subject
[It... might not take too long. Maybe. Hopefully.]
no subject
[Is she ever going to let that go?
Maybe no.]
no subject
I couldn't help it. What's a circus without lions and tigers and things like that?
no subject
[But she'll let it go (FOR NOW), instead content to just sit and watch the little critters and take notes on which looks the most trainable.]
